GFM Hold Spooktacular Fundraiser for FoodbankNovember 9, 2017
At GFM we decided to get into the spirit of things this Halloween by holding a spooktacular fundraiser in aid of Colchester Foodbank, which helped raise £257.51 and collect lots of food donations for the local charity.
Established in 2008 Colchester Foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups that provide emergency food to people who are in crisis. Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income and a simple box of food can make a huge difference – helping prevent; crime, housing loss, family breakdown and mental health problems.
As part of the charity event, staff were welcomed to work with Halloween themed treats that had been kindly created and donated by employees before the commencement of the fundraising activities, which included a tombola, best-dressed competition and guess the number of sweets in a jar challenge. In the afternoon our employees took part in the ‘Ghostly GFM Bake Off’ with elected judges deciding the winning entries. Afterwards employees were able to indulge in the many cakes brought in by staff, again with all donations going to the Colchester Foodbank.
Reflecting on the day Beverley McIntyre, COO at GFM ClearComms, said: “As a long-established business we realise that we are in an extremely fortunate position and therefore look to use our success as an opportunity to give back to our local community. It is brilliant to see how much effort all the staff put in to help raise crucial funds to support such a great charity. This is just one of many initiatives we have planned for the next 12 months at GFM, which are all designed to help local charities in Colchester and the surrounding areas.”
