GFM Finalists at Charity Football Fundraiser

December 7, 2017

This week GFM participated in Sky Betting & Gaming’s first ever Christmas Cup in aid of children’s cancer and play therapy charity Give a Duck. The football fundraiser, which took place at Goals Centre in Leeds on December 5th, saw some of Yorkshire’s favourite celebrities from the worlds of football, cricket and television join Sky Betting & Gaming employees and business partners to take to the pitch for this great cause.

FOOTBALL FESTIVITIES

The Christmas Cup is one of many charitable fundraising events and challenges Sky Betting & Gaming have organised this year in support of Give a Duck, its chosen charity for 2017. In fact, just last month GFM also sponsored its 2nd annual charity ball, which helped raise over £35,000 on the night. The 5-a-side football tournament included 9 teams and over 60 players who battled it out for four hours until there were just two teams left in the final – Sky Betting & Gaming Contact Centre and our very own GFM team, which included Emmerdale actor Anthony Quinlan, with the hosts coming out victorious 3-1 in a tightly contested match. There were also various other fundraising activities that took place throughout the day, with all proceeds going to Give a Duck.

SUPPORTING OUR GFM PARTNERS

All of the money raised by Sky Betting & Gaming’s fundraising events this year will go towards the cost of providing 1500 specially designed Chemo Duck comfort toys to help children diagnosed with cancer to learn about how their treatment is administered. The Give a Duck charity, which has brought ‘huggable hope’ to hundreds of families since it was launched 18 months ago, is run solely by volunteers and was set up by trustees Andrew Phillips, Karen Phillips, Helen Holmes and Elizabeth Hawkhead.

Reflecting on the day Client Services Manager Brett Cutbush who took part in the tournament stated: “The Christmas Cup was a lot of fun for everyone involved and most importantly it helped raise crucial funds for an amazing charity in Give a Duck. The whole day was really well organised by the Sky Betting & Gaming team who are doing great work in support of local charities and we are delighted to be able to contribute to their efforts.”
